Is the filter a hydraulic filter? Really dumb question: Are you running the tractor at full throttle? It will be slow in both directions if not at full throttle. I wonder if your release valves are stuck half open or something.

Yes it is the correct baldwin filter, from IH dealer, incl. hytran fluid.

Have you checked out your hydro linkage? I would look at the trunion bracket and springs. You may not be moving the trunion arm all the way.
If your linkeage is good then I would check the hydraulic pressure, you could have a bad pressure relief valve. |

I lubed the linkage today. It seems to have helped. The linkage is a bit loose!(worn) I grease it very well after mowing. I now will oil w/ oil can on a reg. basis.
Thanks for your help! Kevin |

I had a similiar problem and it was the linkage that attached to the hydro control. A nut had came loose and you had to move the hydro lever have way forward before the tractor would even move.

I would use a dry lube for the external linkage. Grease and oil are dirt magnets and will cause all sorts of crap to stick to the linkage and wear it out rapidly. Graphite, or my personal favorite, TDL garage door lube (made by the same company that makes PB Blaster) would be a better choice. You also don't need to lube it after every mowing.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
