My Cub Cadet 108 appears to have carburetor issues.
The engine will run great for about 30 min and then all of a sudden it will stall. I noticed after it stalls, I can see gasoline coming out of the carb, which tells me the float is stuck open. This started to occur after I did a rebuild. I replaced the old carb with a new Walbro carb. The same thing is happening on this carburetor as with the old one. Can it something other the carburetor causing this. I checked to make sure the vent cap is open. I also checked the screen in the shut off valve. Is there anything else I need to check? Does the float on the Walbro carb hang to prevent the needle valve from closing? Any help would be appreciated. |

I would put the old "good" carb in a can of carb cleaner and clean it real good and rebuild it and put in a new float and hardware. The walbro isn't going to do much but give you grief. Just my 2 cents..

Most of the guys here will tell you the original style carter or Kohler carbs are the best carbs. The walbro's don't have full ability to be adjusted and the floats are plastic and they usually have problems with the valve the float works. Also they tend to use more fuel than a Kohler carb.
Unless something was broke in yours you should be able to rebuild it in a day or so, giving it time to soak in the cleaner solution altho a lot of guys including myself use carb spray cleaner and an air hose to clean out the carb. They are exceptionally simple to take apart and put back together. The one thing to check on yours or any other one that you buy that is used is if the throttle shaft has some play it in around where it goes thru the carb body at the top. If so I did a write up of what you need to do to fix this with a couple of CHEAP parts you can buy at your local hardware store or can order. A lot of times this slop in the shaft will cause an unstable idle or surging. Other than that, the rebuild consists of a new float and valve, float bowl gasket and seal. You will get the correct gasket when you get the float kit or rebuild kit. I prefer the metal floats. Can't say I have ever seen or used a carb without the baffle gasket and I really don't know what effect that can have.

So both carbs do the same thing ? If it runs good for 30 min and the problem starts I think i would check some other things before assuming carb problems Is it overheating ? (Harbor frieght makes a nifty infared themometer) --- possible plugged muffler --- If you slightly choke it during one of these times will it straighten out --- but sounds like it is flooding don't know if it is possible to boil the fuel bowl on a CC but I have had cars doing it in summer pretty hot these days fuel tank vented ok ?

If the carb is piddling gas out of it, your float is not seating the needle valve.
Since both carbs are doing this, I would suspect a small piece of rubber from the fuel line getting under the seat. It sure don't take much to keep the valve from seating. It's worth a try to shut off the fuel, remove the line, and run the engine out of fuel, then give the fuel inlet a shot of compressed air to possibly dislodge the obstruction under the seat. If that doesn’t work, then you can go further into the seat/float. |

I had the same trouble with my 122 I was haveing to choke it to even get it to run fuel would run out of the carb it was backfireing and just generally running vey bad.Changed carbs changed coil, condesor, points, and spark plug nothing worked..Finally realized the sediment bowl was full of trash and that it was vibrateing the fuel shut off valve shut as it was running. Replaced the sediment-fuel shut off valve with one from Patton acres solved all my problems runs great now.Just something you may want to check.
