I am new to both Cubs and this forum. I know my way around cars but this project is new to me. I picked up a running 149 a couple weeks ago and started by changing the fluids and repairing the trans linkages. During my preflight inspection I noticed a hydro line leaking at the pump. I tried to tighten the fitting and it got worse. The pump also started making a lot more noise than normal. I am hoping this is just air in the lines but would love some feedback. I haved ordered a new line and fittings since the seat was deformed. After replacing the line what steps must I take to bleed the system?

Welcome to OCC!
You don't specify which line is leaking? How about some kind of reference pic or point it out on a parts diagram. Once full the system will bleed its self.

The line that is leaking is a pressure line. Depending on how bad it is leaking may be the noise. Where is it leaking exactly? It may be the fitting at the pump and not the line. The system should bleed itself. Are you sure the hydro is full? What filter did you use? Are you sure the neutral is set correctly? If the tractor is trying to "creep" it will make the hydo whine. Try moving the lever a little past neutral both directions and see if the noise goes away.

The leak is coming from the flared fitting on the line side. There seems to be a worn area on the line flange and the fitting so I chose to replace the line, fitting and o-ring at each end. May be overkill but I don't like to do things twice. The O-ring was not cracked but it was starting to become brittle. The hydro is full except for what has leaked from the line. I changed the fluid and filter after replacing the differential cover gasket. I don't recall the filter number, but I replaced it with the same OEM filter that was on it. I had a bad bucking problem so I welded up the worn spots in the damper plate and replaced the nylon bushings. The bucking has been corrected and i don't seem to have any creep with the brake off. I hope it is just air but I stopped messing with it after the leak got worse. My parts should be in this weekend and I will follow-up after install. Thanks for the tips and welcoming to OCC Jeff |
