At the chance of sounding rather ham-fisted, I just finished putting a stack on my new (to me) original. It had a big clunky galvanized pipe on it with an elbow. I hated it.
Short trip down to the local Lowe's store and I now have a pipe that I like. I picked up a chrome, 15-inch long section of sink drain pipe. I got the one that has the flange, not the threads. I cut two peices of a smaller section of pipe and then spliced out a section of each so that they would fit inside of the stack. With the two pieces acting as a bushing, the stack snugly slid over the cut section of galvanized pipe that threaded into the head. I put a light U-clamp over the joint to keep it in place. Sounds great, looks nice and, it's light so there's less chance of cracking the head. With the lighter, thin-walled stack, it's probably lighter than the original style muffler. |

C5rider,
Very clean look on the new stack! Agreed lighter is better. I just picked up a 2 in flapper cap for the 147R stack. I am going to paint it High temp black. Regards, Chris

I see all the single cylinder stacks but I would like to see a 2 into 1 stack set up for my M20. The hood is dented on my 2072 and I am thinking about having a 2 into 1 stack made to come through the hood. I see the pullers with the dual stacks but I would like to have a single stack to imitate some of the older farm tractors style exhaust. I don't want to go through the side panels because they are not dented. Any body using this set up? Got pictures?

How are you going to open the hood if you run the exhaust through it?

Matt I really hope you dont think Im so dumb I didnt think about opening the hood LOL
. It will same way we did on the farm tractors. The exhaust manifold had a short piece of pipe that just came to the top of the hood level then your muffler or stack slipped over that short piece. When you opened the hood you just lifted the muffler off then the hood would swing up normally. My JD 420S farm tractor is that way and I believe some of the old Allis Chamblers we had were that way. I was just thinking a throw back to those old farm tractors might look good on the 2072 body style.

dsmithjr,
Funny you mention that! Yea the ALLIS WD 45's we ran for 40 years or more only had the hoods off about twice in there life. But then again all items were able to be worked on from the sides not like a CUB. And like you said the stack had to be loosened and or removed first. Heck 90% of the time they ran with out a stack, just setting there purring one minute and bellowing the next! I like the idea of the single stack through the hood. Cant wait to see the pictures of your fabrication work! You have to make this happen now! Regards, Chris

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
