well, to everyone who has helped along the way thank you. Long story short... if you buy one of those engine kits, and it comes with free points... don't use them.
a quick trip to NAPA and i could physically feel the difference in quality in my hand. I installed the new points and she runs on the top end like a champ. Even used her to pull my '78 F-150 project into the garage. Its amazing how something so small has frustrated me for so long. She still need a little tuning, but thats just a couple turns here an there. thanks again everyone!

I take it that she's running fine now?? Glad you got it figured out! Most points now days are very cheaply made. I haven't bought any from napa for a long time. Last ones I got were prime line, I'm not a fan of theirs either. I have a set on the k301 that's transplanted in my 1211 that are over 20 yrs old! I filed them a little and still runs like a top! The last two sets of points I've bought only half the contact point touches each other. Cheap foreign made crap.
