i just think that any good quality hydrolic oil should be good,it works in all other types of hydrolic machinerey,i cant see that a cub cadet is any different,im sure all of the mfgrs. of hydro oil know what water will do to the system,as do the makers of the system, this is not just a cub problem, just use a good quality hydro oil, just my opinion???

fleopis67:

You can use what ever fluid you want. We can only pass along Cub Cadet's recommendations. If you choose not to or ignore Cub's recommendations, then that's your choice. After all, it's your Cub(s).

Although I've used the off-brand many times, there must be some sort of difference in the "meets hytran specs" fluid and genuine hytran. The off-brands i've tried don't have near as red of tint to it as hytran. I wonder why that is?

HyTran is a Patented Formula. It is made exclusively by the Viscosity Oil Company for Case/IH & MTD. NOBODY else makes the same exact formula.

One can choose to use what is recommended, or one can choose to use an "equivalent".

I have not seen any other brand of hydraulic fluid that absorbs water like Hytran does. I can almost guarantee that the generic substitutions that supposedly meet the IH specs won't be as good.

Like everyone is saying, it's your tractor to do as you please with, but this is what is recommended, and for good reason.

My personal experience between Hytran and alternate fluids:

This spring I had 2 gal Super UDT left over (Kubota's high end fluid @ $28 gal) after I serviced my B21 TLB so decided to do my 1811 with the SUDT. Thinking if its good enough for the Kubota the Cub would be happy too.

The SUDT has very good specs but after the change out the first 20 minutes of operation were fine but once warm the hydro noise increased and bypass squeel due I presume to the thinner fluid concerned me, and the transmission response wasnt as sharp.

So back to the dealer a few weeks ago got 2 gal of Hytran and changed it out again. Now, very little hydro noise, no slipping, no bypass squeel - runs great.

Lesson learned - Hytran..

Carl

Diesel will work.
I used paper towels to get most of the stuff out. Them I sprayed brake clean in the rear end.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
