Broken ACR tab
Short version: If ACR tab broke off my K321AQS, what are my options?
Just finished a complete rebuild. Cub Cadet 1450 was cranking over very difficultly, and would not start. After checking valve clearances, I took off the head and found that the compression release was not working. Pulled the cam cover, and could see that the ACR tab was bent down a little, and not even making contact with the tappet. Tried bending it up as gently as I could (it is one of the ones that did not have the hardened tab), but it just wouldn't stay up and give me enough clearance. Kept at it, but in the end it snapped. So now there's no ACR tab, and motor can't crank over enough to start. Do I: (a) find a used camshaft somewhere, and give it a try? (b) use a bigger battery/starter that can get her going without any ACR? (c) give up. The used camshaft option just has me a little nervous, as it might just put me in the same position I'm in now, if its ACR tab is not good. Speaking of giving up... if anyone knows of a re-builder in the Rochester area of NY, I'm at the point where I'll pay for some help. I've been fighting with this for a while now. Thanks, Jim
