I have a 1541 that I purchased that did not run. I had to remove the engine to install a new ignition module and put everything back together and after about 5 hours of run time I noticed that I have a leak at the front seal of the charge pump housing. Is this a common place to have a leak or did I not align something up when I installed the engine? How hard is it to replace this seal? Are there any other things I should do to the hydro if I am replacing this seal.
Thanks. |

Welcome Oak glad your here,
Does the drive shaft seem to vibrate?? how do the flex discs look? I belive if you remove the driveshaft and the coupler for the drive shaft on the input shaft of the charge pump you can pull the seal and replace it. Clean the heck out of it,then run it again and check for leaks, trunion seals/the linkage that controls your forward and reverse movment, and where the whole unit meets the rear end. If the trunion seals leak you will have to break the whole unit down/the hydro, and if the gasket that is between the hydro itself and the rear, its easier to split the tractor to replace the gasket. Check the damper spring plate to see if the springs are wore. I looked up your tractor on the parts look up and it looks like there were two different hydros depending on serial # ???? Here is a link http://cubcadet.arinet.com/scripts/E...&loginpwd=test just type in your model and it will give you an illastrated parts list. If you chose to take the hydro apart keep it extremly clean!!! Your gonna have to clean up everything really well, work the tractor a bit and then check for all the leaks Good luck,Jason

Thanks Jason, I'm going to check it out today. It looks like its coming from the front seal and the drive shaft is throwing it everywhere. I purchased a new seal and I will try that first. I will let you know how it goes.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
