Default smoking 1650

Cubcadet friends,

If I fill the 1650 engine to the top of the oil stick, the engine smokes big time until the oil level is down to just near the bottom of stick. Then there is nearly no smoke. I am not out of oil at time because I mow most of the time that way -- after the first few minutes of mowing and smoking.

I have wondered if I had the wrong stick in the engine. I do know that engine had been replaced just before I got it.

Or does this make sense somehow? This is a 16 hp kohler. The stick seems to fit well.

Thanks
Earl

The engine holds 3pts of oil SAE 30. I would drain and put that exact amount back in and see if the marks on the dip stick are correct or not. If not, mark the stick at the correct level.

Dipstick should be stamped 4703803. I got a NOS from Rich Patton last summer. I looked all over and could never find the correct dipstick.

Both of those sound good. I will do an oil change and check the stick serial number.

Thanks

Motors that burn oil tend to use up what is in the crank case.Bad rings will cause that. When they are over filled it would be blowing out of the breather/air cleaner. How did you determine that you have the "correct' amount of oil after the level is down too low?

Default smoking

It blowing out the exhaust.

I am going to change the oil and put in 3 pints and measure on the stick.

I have never let the oil get off stick so far.

Thanks
Earl

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
