Well I finally snagged a sweet deal this morning on my first Cub Cadet, and much appreciation goes out to the forum and all of you who provided info. It's a very clean one owner Quietline 1000, with 38" deck, and only 440 hours on the meter. The PO had purchased it new, and calculated (with a pencil and paper!) how many times he'd used it for his small yard over the years, and had come up with 450 hrs.
It has the original tires & blades, two small places that need welded on the deck, electric switch for starting the deck/PTO, replacement metal gas tank with petcock added, 3 point hitch, and seems to run, function and sound excellent. The PO even fabricated a sturdy little T-handled tool to aid in turning the fuel petcock. I've only unloaded it, and ran it a little, will check it out closer later. I know we all like pics, so I snapped a few. The tractor had not been cleaned when I went to look at it, and this is just how I took it off the truck. The paint is scratched up a little, but otherwise looks like it will polish up nicely with a detail job. The Chevy S-10 was squattin' a little, but handled the 2 hr trip fine. Ended up laying the mower in the front of the bed and runnin the front wheels up on it on planks. I'll be looking for some narrow front wheels, rear chains, and a few things, so check for my want ad. Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
