Default 1641??

I have a chance to buy a '92 1641. Looks in good shape, well maintained. Has a 50" deck and a bagger. I've been wanting to get a jbjr for my 2554, but i see you can get a kwik way fel for the 1641....so....any thoughts on the 1641 otherwise?....are they the B&S engines? are they overall a good tractor?...thanks

Hell Billy,

My family got a 1641 new in 92. We've put over 1100 hours on the 16hp, briggs vanguard with no issues. So far I've put on it 3 pto clutches (we cut alot of grass), a gear on the starter, a throttle cable, a voltage regulator, and a more recent valve cover with the fill plug (didn't NEED it but, rather than pouring the oil down the dipstick hole...). All this combined with routine maintenence, still runs excellent. I feel it's a great tractor. In fact, I liked it so much, I got another one for the wife to drive to help cut down on the grass cutting time.

We got the bagger attachment with the first tractor, and didn't care for it much.

Hope this helps...
Bob

Yes it should be a B&S Vanguard V twin made in Japan. I have had 2 1440's (B&S Vanguard 14 hp) good power, easy on fuel. Minor electrical issues, mainly the plug in for the ignition switch and sometimes coil pack(2ea). After around a 1000 hrs the rubber crank case breather tube will get hard and crack, thus leak oil and make you think it's a main seal...$8 easy fix for the tube.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
