Default Hobbs hour meter

Hey guys ...I'm trying to install a Hobbs hour meter in a 129 . The gauge has two posts on the back and does not even come close to fitting in the fiberglass panel hole . Anyone have any ideas on this? I looked at parts tree for an example but they don't show the gauges nor does the manual. What secures it to the panel ?

The 1X8/1X9 series had the hour meters installed in the left side engine panel. The 169 is the only one that came factory with an hour meter. A picture of your meter would help a lot. The side panel I am describing is just below the fuel tank, about 4 - 5 inches wide.

I beg to differ DX3 ....this came to me in pieces , but the meter was on on the right ...sorry , no cam right now ....

The posts on the meter should be marked + and -. The - goes to any good clean ground, the + goes to switched 12V power, you can use the + terminal on the coil. As far as it not fitting in the hole, how far off is it? If it were me and it's a working tractor (not a show piece) I'd just file/grind the hole out carefully until the new meter fits.

The PO said it was factory and in the hole . Just think I'm missing back up hardware

Not sure if this is the style of gauge you have but there is usually a U shaped bracket that fits on the back side of the gauge after the gauge has been slid thru the mounting hole. A nut on each post holds the U bracket in place and applies force to keep the gauge from moving. As for the PO comment about the hour meter being factory, that is not correct. The 1X8/1X9 dashes had a choke on the left side, an ammeter in the center and a hole on the right for a cigarette lighter, or was filled with a chrome button. All you can probably do is enlarge the hole wherever it is located to install the hour meter or pick up a new meter to fit if the hole is already @ 2" or so.

DX_3 is correct. What he pictured, is the correct meter also.

Per the 1x8/9 Operators Manual, it cites the 169 is the only model in that series that had a Factory installed hour meter on the LH Panel.

Wow...this is a strange one . Has about 544 hours on it . Wiring harness
looks to be unmolested with " factory type" tab connectors . Will try to
get some pics posted ...Also thought it was cool that the panel is stamped
7-9- 73 .....anyone else seen manu date stamped on the back side of
the panel ?
