I replaced the wiring harness on my 125. I picked up a battery hold down as mine was missing. I had to turn the battery around or the hold down would cross both terminals.
Now the positive terminal on the battery is on the left sitting on the 125. The wire from the battery to the solenoid is too short now. Makes me think someone relocated the solenoid. Currently it bolted on the right side of the tower just below the hold and around the hood latch. I looked at some pictures and I don't see the solenoid exposed as mine is. Where should it have been located? |

Sounds like you have the wrong battery. I use only Interstate Batteries and they come with the positive terminal on either side depending on the application. Your terminals should be close to the tower and not the hold down bar.

The 125 solenoid should be behind the battery "under" the dash (take the battery out and look back in the hole). Can't remember what side it is on for sure but there should be two little studs welded in there for it to bolt onto.

I rotated the battery so studs are to tower. The positive terminal is on the left side looking forward. That allowed me to get the battery hold down on.
I will pull battery and look for the solenoid mounting studs inside. It appears someone moved it to the outside of the tower for whatever reason. |

If i remember right the solenoid should on the right side inside the dash when sitting on the tractor. And who knows,if someone put the solenoid on the outside it might still have the old one in it.

I took a look today and found the mounting location for the solenoid. Studs are there. For whatever reason past owner moved the solenoid to the outside of the tower. I moved the solenoid back. Might know why someone moved it. Not easy getting the nuts back on the mounting studs. Once together the starter didn't work. Back apart and figure out the solenoid needs a good ground to its mounting point. Clean up the studs a bit and new nuts. Works good now and the battery cable from solenoid to battery reaches now.

Good job 123, kinda makes getting those nuts back on there worth the trouble.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
