Default 1450 ACR question

Every once in a while my 1450 wont turn over i put a new battery in it, when it comes up on compression it stops if i bump it a few times it will go. I have 2 1450s and they both do the same thing is there an adjustment or somthing gone bad, im not sure how the thing works just wanted to get some advice before i tear into it. Thanks

Before blaming the ACR, I'd try some easier things first.

1. Check/clean all of the ground cables, including the one from the tractor frame to the engine. Replace any cables that appear to be in poor condition.

2. Remove and clean the starter, paying particular attention to the condition of the brushes and commutator.

3. Are these tractors sitting outside or inside? If you are using 30W oil this time of year, they are going to be very stiff. 10W-30 needs to be used below 30 degrees. If they're outside, a magnetic heater on the trans would be a good idea. The trans is also very stiff when all of the Hytran is cold.

My 1250 acted the exact same way. While I had the head off I checked the ACR and it was working fine. I had cleaned and double checked all the wiring while I had the motor out. The only thing I did not do was check the starter. I am almost positive the starter needed going thru.

I took the starter apart on my 1250 and used an electrical cleaner on the internals and where it attached to the engine block. I was surprised how much dirt came off. Then I used a silicon lubricant on the bushings and bendix. after I put it together it spun noticeably faster. Also my wires need to be replaced, they are still the original wires.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
