Default Startup noise

I didn't hear anything like you describing. Perhaps its something under the clutch housing shield. It sounded like the engine ran good, other than some carb adjusting, etc. A friend of mine use to say "She was tying every bundle"

Pull the cover and see if the rag joints or the couplers are bad....

I didn't hear anything out of the ordinary either....sounds like she has great compression. The front pto's can make a little noise as well as the rag joints like Jay mentioned....Ive heard S/G's making some weird noises that lead you to believe its internal to the engine, but really not. She sounds pretty good to me.

Ok, thanks. I'll pull the guard and see what is going on with the rag joints(whatever they are). I learned so much in the last 6 months about gear drive cubs, not it's a whole new learning curve. I have the manual, will have to do some research

Yeah, the front PTOs and the joints are known to make a clanking noise. The coupler on the engine for the driveshaft always gets a notch worn in it from the roll pin,but other than the noise is no issue.

Sounds like the flywheel screen is loose and rubbing against the shroud,or you have a noisy hydro pump/ problem

Default Flywheel screen

I thought about that flywheel screen too. I've had them come loose and rub with centrifigal force when the engine runs, or get bent and hit the fan shroud when it runs. Just my .02 cents worth.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
