Default Hytrans oil

Is there any oil i can buy at NAPA or Autozone for the 109? Tractor suppily wants almost 14 bucks a quart for CC tranny oil.

TSC is trying to sell you hydraulic oil for a newer Cub. I think the hydraulic oil for the newer Cubs is synthic oil.

I purchase 5 gal. of Hy-Tran Ultra last summer for $62. A local Case-IH should have Hy-Tran Ultra in quarts-1 gallon and 5 gallon containers.

If i change it how much will it hold and where do you drain it? Dont see a plug.

You'll want to get a rear end cover gasket, either from your Cub Cadet dealer or CaseIH dealer. If from the CaseIH dealer, ask for a Farmall Cub rearend cover gasket, they are about half price than the Cub Cadet gasket and the same thing.

Loosen all the bolts on the rearend and pop the bottom loose with a large drain pan underneath. There will be nearly 7 quarts of fluid in a hydro rear end and it comes out quick. Then you can pull the plate all the way off and clean the gasket material from the plate or rear end. Jack up the front of the tractor and let it drain for a long time. Once it's mostly drained take some brake cleaner and spray out the interior really good and wipe out the excess goo.

Now you're ready to put the gasket and cover back on. I don't use any gasket sealer, just put it on dry. Torque down the bolts evenly by hand. Not sure what torque spec, I just do it by feel. Don't forget to change the filter using a genuine Cub Cadet filter. Now fill the rearend through the check/fill plug in the rearend cover plate. Get a good flexible funnel and pour slowly until it starts to come out of the hole. Replace the plug and start it up and let it warm up and then cool down. Now check the fluid level. If it's not up to the bottom of the plug hole, refill until just at the bottom. Remember, hot oil expands, so you want to check it cool.

I buy my HyTran from my CaseIH dealer or my Case Industrial dealer by the gallon for around $17/gal. Some places will sell out of their bulk tanks for much cheaper if you bring in good gallon jugs.

How bout using Deeres Hy Gard hyd transmission oil as i dont have a CC dealer nearby?

Do you have a Cub Cadet dealer nearby? I have also seen a Farm and Fleet brand. Maybe it was Mystic.

It really needs to be meant for Farmall/IH/CubCadet.

I have a Chrysler minivan that requires a certain tranny fluid, so I am used to searching for cheaper oil.

Check Home Depot as well. I think they now carry the Cub Cadet line, so they should sell the oil. Lowes used to before they went green.

If you have a napa near by, they have hyd fluid that meets hytran specs, but I prefer to stick with genuine hytran if it's close enough to me. I swear it seems like my hydro has more response to it when genuine hytran is used but it may all be in my head.

AG: Careful how you express that comment. That NAPA (& other brands) stuff does not meet "Hy-Tran" Specs....it says that it meets some IH specification...There's a big difference....AFAIK, there's a patented process involved with Hy-Tran which you won't find in the others, although they may otherwise be similar and meet the basic specification. That's why hydrostatic transmissions using Hy-Tran last for years & years longer than others...

The stuff at napa says it "meets or exceeds (hytran plus) oem specs". whether it actually does or not isn't my problem. I'd assume it does not meet hytran ultra specs. that's why I commented in the previous post I'd prefer to stick with genuine hytran as I don't think the off brands match hytran either.
