Default New Cub Cadet Owner 100 and 122

Hello all,

I have jumped in with both feet and bought my first two Cub Cadets pictured below. I bought a 100 and 122.

I have many questions and my focus is on restoring the 100. It isn't the pretties looking maching but it runs great and has some great options.

Hopefully this doesn't sound stupid but any 100 starting tips/process? I feel like I get a bit choke happy.

Thanks,
Rob

Some of the guys here who REALLY know how to tune a Kohler may may have different views, but my experience is:

They're all a little different from each other. For the ones that I know need choke, I turn the key, as soon as the engine turns, I pull the choke out and push it right back in, that usually does it. I have some that start before the engine has turned a complete revolution, others aren't quite as quick to fire up.

Congrats on your 100 and 122! They are very nice. I do the same as YS, when I start my 100.

Oh, PLEASE a ask alot of questions. This way I can copy & print the answers & build up my binder so I don't have to look them up.

In another post I replied that whatever question you have has been asked & answered mulitple X's. But I have frustratind time looking things up.

That #122 looks like someone has gone to great efforts in making it PURDY?

Thanks all!

The 122 is refurbished...and I know the seat is wrong, hope to put the right one on at some point.

The 100 is actually a more solid tractor than the 122 even though the 122 looks pretty sweet.

I'm hopeful to put the 100 plow to work this winter and possibley start the resto in the spring.

The 100 has a Carter carburator, does anyone know if that is stock?
I have heard Kohler and Walbro, which is on my 122 but never hear of a stock Carter carb

The Carter carb is the correct one.

Starting any motor:
Pull choke out if motor is cold.
Move throttle to 1/3 to 1/4 off idle.
Turn key on-push starter button if equip with one.
When motor starts to run push choke in part ways-motor will let you know.
Keep pushing choke in until the choke is all the way in....motor will let you know.

The motor will tell how it wants you to start it....sometimes it takes trying a few different ways to start it before you figure it out.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
