Default Front axle question

Would a wide frame (1450) front axle work under a narrow frame (147)? Would there be any benefit? I'm just looking and thinking. Haven't had time to measure anything yet. The front axle on the 147 has been welded.

If it won't work, it's not really a big deal. I do have access to another narrow frame front axle, but I would have to pull the engine to get it. The 1450 already has the engine out. Thanks.

Woo Hoo finally a question I CAN answer with some authority.

Many people will tell you that you can not, They will say that it is too wide or too tall.

If you lay the two axles side by side the WF axle is wider and it does look taller, but the spindles set higher on the WF axle than the ones on the NF, lowering the axle mounting hole, and being that the WF wheels have the opposite offset from the NF wheels, when the WF wheels are used it puts the width right back to where it was with the original NF axle and wheels.

When I put the Wide Frame axle and wheels under my 122 with the front end loader, it may have raised the front end of the tractor somewhere between a 1/4 and 1/2 inch (measured at the very front of the tractor) it was hard to tell because I run so much air pressure in my front tires (to make it steering easier).

I've also seen a NF axle on a WF. A friend had one on his 86.

Talking Rear

Does this mean you'll have an extra 1450 rear end hanging out just looking for a new home?

The 1450 rear end is part of another project.

Looks like I already have a good set of spindles for my 123 project. Just have to borrow the axle from the 1200. I like the steering arm on the wf spindles better anyway. Thanks for the info.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
