It's been in the 60's for a week now here in Vermont which made me realize I had cub things to get done before winter. Number 1 was an oil leak on my 129 loader. I've been under it twice and could see it was bottom end ....... front and rear seals were dry after cleaning everything off so I went and got a pan gasket and went to work. After getting the motor on the ground and the pan off I realized the gasket was in great shape but there were pieces of metal in the pan.
Seems the PO mounted the motor with the wrong bolts (to long) and they broke the casting off the top of the bolt holes inside the pan on the 2 front bolts. Luck had it that I had an extra pan on hand so it was an easy fix. Well the problem was easy ....... getting the motor out and in on a cub with a loader, by yourself is a ROYAL PAIN! 129 001.jpg 129 002.jpg 129 003.jpg

Do you have the side panels on yours? I have them on mine and it looks like I'm going to have to take apart some of the loader to get them off. I might just leave them off when I figure it out. If you didn't already know...I just got this one and I wasn't part of the "attach the loader to it" process. It looks like they mounted the support bracket to the frame under the panel with a nut and bolt but I just don't see how to get to the bolt...yet. I guess I have to get under it and look up.

Nope .... No side panels / see pic. My grief was having to put it up on blocks to drop the front axel, to get the front mounting bolts out. Good Luck with yours. Sminkey Winters coming fast, half my leaves are down already so good luck with your blower. 100_2573.jpg

I know that feeling! I ended up taking the arms (for a lack of a better term atm) and bucket off when I pulled my K241. Taking it off was no problem, but putting it back on and getting it lined back up so I could reinstall the pins sucked!

Did I read that right? Having the panels on makes the motor cooler?

Yes they are made to run with the side panels. It improves air flow around the motor so yes it runs cooler.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
