Mufflers

All rabid, loyal, die hard Cub lovers PLEASE move on?:biggrin2.gif:

I know that I am gonna make some eyes roll because i'm thinking of

adding a Arnold type muffler to a Cadet. Cost is just downright cheap.

Does any-one use these? Any opinions? Costs less than a six'er, soda that is.

One of mine had one something like that when i bought it. I ran it that way for a while. I just like the tone of the stock mufflers better is the only reason i changed mine :biggrin2.gif:

I have a cheapie Arnold muffler like that on my 73, and I don't see anything wrong with it...sort of resembles the stock muffler for that tractor. I would think if it was on anything over say...8hp it might not be the best choice because of the small size of it. I saw a sizing chart for them somewhere, and I seem to remember that those style threaded mufflers aren't "rated" so to speak, for anything over 8hp.....would it work...probably...would it be loud...probably

I don't know, I've kinda been keeping my eyes open for a similar such muffler for one of my 70's. Haven't seen any locally, might have to order one from somewhere.

On the other hand I don't really care for the larger version, some of my other tractors had them when I got them, still I haven't got them all changed yet.

Something to think about...when I went through a 100 last summer, I was trying to decide between a cheap muffler and the $15 Kohler one. I went with the Kohler one, and there's a HUGE quality difference. All of the cheap mufflers I've bought got rusty in 2 or 3 hours of run time. The Kohler one still looked new after that period. I sold the tractor, so I don't know what happened after that, but I really think it will last longer than any of the cheap mufflers. You get what you pay for.

Aren't the small pepper shaker mufflers for an "O", 70, 71... NLA?

i am in the process of cleaning and repairing the little things on my 125 and the old muffler was not in the best shape so i went the e pay route, 35 bucks delivered to my door i will pay so i will not having to deal with the parts person that can not find anything that was not made in the last decade

true it is aftermarket but i bolted it on and it looks and sounds good

Like Jeff (teet), I run one of those on my 73 and it has worked fine for about a year now. I'm sure it isn't the best of the best (you do get what you pay for), but it will do for some time and that fit my needs.

i actually use 2 of the cheapie mufflers off of one pipe. plenty of room to work with, but depending on how you want to exit the tractor. im trying to get mine quiet. silent stealthy quiet. i have a plan but its trial and error, so it takes time and tribulations, so when i get it right i will share it. its not for the true restorers but for the quiet workhorses. anyway, the twin cheapies so far gets me riding without the wifey knowing half the time. if im putting around at idle... pretty good, i think.

hopefully i can put up pics i took of it. it is really super quiet. surprised me! it just huffs at idle.
