Default Looking at a Magnum 18

Considering a Magnum 18 for may 782 that had a rod failure. Is the engine a direct swap in. And is there a difference in wiring up to my stock harness. When inspecting a possible engine for replacement, what should I be looking at to make sure I've got a good engine to swap in.

The M-18 is a Plug & Play swap for the KT-17, EXCEPT for a small wiring change. There are two different avenues to pursue on the wiring, and I have done both. It makes a difference in the version of 782's wiring harness. Either way, I have the diagrams and the procedures for both versions.

As far as general motor conditions, the obvious things to look for, ie: does it burn oil, does it leak oil, etc.

Another somewhat common flaw with the Magnums was the governor gear and it's pin. They are a stouter engine as compared to the KT17, even though they are quite similiar.

Be aware that the horizontal shaft M15 used in the 1541 is the exact same engine except for the carburetor.

Not a good serial number. I am guessing it is 2050594U665171.

Check to see if I am right.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
