Tank L60 With Kohler CV740 Stalls Going Downhill
I am the proud owner of a CC Tank, built in 2011. I have had no problems with this machine until recently. It has started to stall when on an incline, both going down hills, and across them with the left side on the uphill slope.
Thinking this was a weak fuel pump, I replaced it with a new OEM pump, and replaced the filter. This helped a bit, but the thing just quits as described above. It will restart when its orientation is changed. I hope someone has seen this weird problem, and can help me solve it.

Have seen this problem many times on other machines. Sounds like it
is time the clean the fuel system. I would start with the tank and inspect and make spotless everything from there all the way to the intake. I would bet that resolves it. Ken

Eureka!
Thanks for the advice; I switched fuel pumps and installed a new fuel filter. That helped a bit...but for reasons other than fuel flow.
After doing the fuel pump, etc. I caught the motor back-firing when it stalled on a hill side. I immediately thought, "electrical problem." I inspected the battery connections. Looked good. Next time I tried to start the engine, nothing. Nary a click. I checked all the safety switches for continuity...AOK. Hmmm... I took the battery connectors off the battery to find that, when my service guy replaced the battery, he used the original split lock washer with no flat washer. The lock washer was compressed inside the negative lead through-hole. This allowed the lead to rotate, and made the battery and negative lead a perfect position switch: move the battery an eighth of an inch, and it became a high resistance connection. Reinstalled the battery with the correct hardware, and the problem was resolved. Tank and I are happily running the hills again. I thought I would let you know about this weird problem, and its solution.
