You guys are probably tired of seeing my name pop up every other day but I’ve got another one for ya. Long story short: My problem arose when I was trying to take the battery out of my user 129 to put in another one i recently fixed, and I short circuited the B and G terminal on the VR. No solenoid click or starter turning over with the ignition on. The harness was boogered together and worked okay for 10-ish years, so I replaced a few connections and re-spliced some of the wires that weren’t spliced properly. I found out the brushes on the starter were wore out and slapped on a old new S/G that’s never been used, a good solenoid, as well as a new ammeter since the original one was badly corroded inside.
After all that, it cranked over and ran just fine, but no charge. I am almost 100% positive I reassembled it correctly. I jumped the F terminal on the S/G to the hot side on the battery while at full throttle, and it started charging, even after I disconnected the jumper wire. I went to cut the key off, and the S/G was still turning. I disconnected the battery and connected it again, and it didn’t turn over on its own. It only seems to keep turning when It starts charging with the jumper wire’s help. The blue wire is going to G on the VR, gray is going to B, and yellow is going to F, so It’s hooked up correctly. Sounds like a failing regulator to me (especially since i short circuited it) and I was just passing on the info. I’ve been reading other threads about starters turning over constantly, but mine is only doing it when it starts charging. It is also possible that the S/G is shorting somewhere inside, but let me know what you guys think. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
