I just finished up some work on an 1810 for a family friend, and took it back to him today. Same guy I got my 125 from last year. He is an older guy, and doesn’t really cut grass anymore, his neighbor uses and maintains his tractors now. The neighbor just bought a new Cub, and they don’t need 3 tractors. When we got to the point that he was ready to pay me, he asked me what I thought their 149 was worth. I told him, and he asked if I would take that as payment. Of course I said yes. While I was loading that up, he went in the garage and came back with a stack of binders, a box of spare parts and a set of wheel weights.
The tractor needs some work, but overall it’s in good shape. Runs and cuts good. Brand new front tires put on the beginning of the season. A bunch of manuals, sales brochures and receipts, for this, my 125, and his 1810. On top of all this, he also insisted on giving me $20 for gas for picking up and delivering his tractor. I told him the tractor was enough, but he wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Some people in this world go beyond fair to exceptional. I believe your friend falls into that category.
Nice "payment".

Thanks guys! Got some small things fixed yesterday. The power wire to the coil had no connector on it, it was just wrapped around the terminal. The right deck lift bracket was backwards, and missing the pin, he had it tied up with a piece of wire. The headlight panel is wrong, I have the parts to put it back to original, but I think I’m going to leave it for now. The rubber retainers were backwards, so I flipped them. I also put the one deck wheel back on since it fell off.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
