Strange over charging issue on my 129
So I've been working the bugs out of my 129, and it had alot. When I bought it, noticed it had an AC Delco coil on it which would get hot whenever the key was on.
Decided to buy one of the blue bosch coils that are a popular replacement. Put the coil on tonight. Turned the key on, coil didn't get hot. Cranked it..........fired right up! Idled smoother than before. Everything seemed fine till I cracked the throttle. Runs great, but as the RPM increases, the volt gauge increases till it's pegged? Nothing changed but the coil? Anyone experience anything like this before? Thanks for any help, Kevin

Started it up tonight. Put a voltage tester on it and verified the gauge is reading correctly. Took a look at the regulator. Noticed 2 of the plastic shields on the on the electrical connectors were melted, luckily the sheathing on wires wasn't effected yet.
Of the 4 wired, 3 twoard front and ground to the rear, only the front upper 2 are getting hot. This is obviously a new problem, guess it may just be some crazy coincidence it reared it's ugly head when I replaced the coil? Tomorrow going to remove the regulator and take a look at it.

Changing the Ignition Coil would have NOTHING to do with a charging issue.
I would suggest, that examining the waring harness compared to a wiring diagram to ensure it is wired correctly. Next I would look at all wire connections to see if they are clean and tight. Over charging would lead me to highly suspect the Voltage Regulator. Examine this closely, and change out if need be. This may help you..... V/R

Just an update, changing the coil was just a freaky coincidence. Regulator was the issue. Bought a new one, but in the meantime pulled the old apart.......found the problem and cleaned the contacts. Problem solved.
