I am trying to remove the PTO clutch on my 104. I have all the set screws out except one, and that one does not want to move. I have sprayed penetrating oil in the hole, heated the clutch in that area and it is not moving! Can I drill out the screw? I am not worried about ruining the clutch as I have a spare. Any help will be appreciated!

For starters, not all penetrating oils are considered equal. What are you using? Second, how long have you been applying the oil for? Patience is key here. Third, Is the set screw still in good shape? Not rounded or stripped?

I am using Liquid Wrench, it is all I have right now. I have been working on it about 4 days. The screw will still hold an allen wrench.

You want to soak this thing really good. Also. do you own an impact driver? You may need to "shock" the bolt loose. Even Once it begins to turn, your not out of the woods quite yet. Sometimes you need to work them back and forth a bit while continuing to apply penetrating oil.

Also, put the screw TDC and fill the hole with your penetrating fluid to allow it to soak and work down in there. As mentioned, PB Blaster is a very good penetrant.

Make sure the screw head is cleaned out and there is nothing keeping allen wrench is going all the way into the screw.
Also, a few taps directed at the point where the screw is located in the casting would not hurt as well. Good Luck!! |

OK, I will try and find some PB Blaster, I have used it before and it is good. I have an impact driver, but can I get an 1/8 inch allen wrench to use with it? This may be a long term project, I only use the CC to put a cart around in the yard. If it takes all summer, well I won't be happy, but can live with it if I can get it off!
At my age (75) I am staying around the house as much as I can, no casual trips for a while! |

I have been able to remove the PTO clutch. I had to drill the set screw out. Now, I have another problem. When I cranked the tractor, I get a full discharge reading on the guage. I have not touched the wiring, but somehow the polarity has been reversed. How do I reset this?

It shows a full discharge when running! There is a slight charge showing when cranking.
