Default Hood needed for 2005 Cub Cadet GT2542

Needing a good hood for a 2005 Cub Cadet GT2542. Just need the plastic hood. The hood opens from the front of the mower. I have all of the metal parts that caused the hood breakage, so don’t need that . Price and location please. I am located in north central Alabama, 35776.

Contact me by email at: Yugosouth@aol.com

Thanks, David.

Do you have the new improved design? That was a huge issue on the original design and almost all of them broke.

Default Hood...gt2542

Don’t know if it’s new design or not...it’s broken. If that was the improved design, someone didn’t think it through too well. I do know that it’s the original hood, as my ex bought the mower new in 2005. It’s only got 144 hrs on it, always been garaged, covered, and maintained each season by the dealer in Tuscaloosa, Al. It had the cylinders at the rear edge of the hood, and broke out the entire rear edge. I’m going to put some hinges at the rear of the replacement hood instead of the garbage that was there. Likely will last a long time.

Default Hood gt2542

Has anyone attempted to compile a list to determine which hoods will interchange from one series to another? As an example. : Would most hoods from

the 1000 series interchange to other 1000 series mowers? Do some interchange from this series to the 2000 series? And so on... I had the same problem with the green machines hoods. Didn’t buy a used based on no one having a clue as to what would or would not interchange .buying item on a guess doesn’t work.

At the top of the page, click the “Cub Cadet Parts and Service Look Up” link, click the box with the Cub Cadet logo, and type in the two model numbers. See if the two hoods have the same part number.

Thanks for that information. I’m new to the forum, and still need to learn about navigating the site.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
