Bad Coil?
Can you have spark, yet have a bad coil? The plug is getting fuel, but acts like it is not getting spark, but I have checked the plug grounded on the engine. You can see spark when cranking. When I initially started the 1250 up this morning it hit right off and ran good for 3 or 4 minutes, more than enough time to adjust the hydro neutral setting, then all the sudden the motor coughed then caught and ran good for another 30 seconds or so, then coughed a couple more times then just shut down. Since then I have not been able to get it to start again. I have checked and rechecked the static timing and it is right where it should be. Any ideas?
 Yes I have set the carb adjustments per Matt's suggestion.

YES...You can have a coil that produces a weak spark but not good enough for ignition. Click on this link for testing a Kohler Ignition Coil.... Coil Test
Click on this link for a simplified Kohler Ignition Circuit..... Ignition Circuit The other thing that I would suggest you check that can cause havoc, is the Condenser. They are hard to check unless you have a condenser checker BUT are cheap to buy and it doesn't hurt to have one around. The condenser HAS to be grounded for proper operation. You can check this with a VOM. There should zero ohms resistance between the condenser case and the battery negative terminal. Let us know what you find.

Bad coil and possible bad condenser. I took the one off of my 128 which I know runs fine, and put it on the 1250. Fired right up and kept running. So I'll be getting a new coil and a couple of condensers. Thanks for the help.

Was finally able to let it run a good heat cycle for 20 minutes or so, so that I can re-torque the head tomorrow, and start putting all the tins back on and use it.
