I didn't get a chance to spend much time on the 782 today (see M18 skip) as I had another little project that took up most of the day. As the title of this post implies, I bought myself a "little" present and went to pick it up today. A friend just upgraded his shop to a CNC mill, and I bought his old one. It is a series 1 J head Bridgeport milling machine, 9 x 32 table . The 51XXX serial makes it early 1960's vintage. No tooling included but I did get a nice vise with it. Between travel, loading and unloading, it took about 6 hours. Now I have to find a spot in my shop for it!

You will like it, and as time goes by, it will become more useful.
![]() Do you have 3 phase or a converter? |

Going to be using a converter. The Bridgeport pancake motor is 1hp 3ph. They do real well with one of the new digital converters. About $150 shipped.

If you get a frequency drive that converts single ph to 3ph you won’t have to move the belt from pulley to pulley yo change speed Nice find! Better to get old iron than some cheesy china knockoff

That will come in real handy! Think about the mess it makes prior to digging out a hole in the shop for it. We keep all of ours at work lined up against a wall. At one time we had so many we had a few out in the middle of the floor, we used welding screens to corral the chips. I wish I had room for a full sized mill but I manage with the oversize table top mill that I have.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
