Ok I do not know the proper name for the belt from the front pto to the mower deck.
What I need to know is what to do about the 100 throwing the new belt off at speed .? I was told by the CC dealer I can use ( they did not have the CC part in stock " a gates model ? .So I purchased from O"Reily monday . Upon installation I started the engine and once engaged the belt would not stay on . The belt purchased is a 1/2 inch belt green in color same model as CC dealer said to buy . Should it be a 3/8 or ???? thanks in advance Dr Then I'am on to the regulator problem. One item at a time . I know there is a way to test the regulator . However it has been way to many years since I've owned a chevy with a 235 ci or a early corrvair .I believe it was remove the cover and hold the contact down . Ha still have a 65 turbo corsa from back in high school " late 70s " .. thanks in advance Dr mac |

Hey Dr,
I had the same problem. First make sure you have the belt tension tight. The adjustment is the nut in the front of the tractor near the bottom. Then ensure the mower deck is level. Adjust that with the two eye bolts or (mower deck hangers) on the front of the deck. Also make sure the belt is not twisted and the tapered side of the belt in going around all the pulleys. Eyeball the belt and make sure it's not hitting anything.. That should do it.. Let us know how it works out.. |

Dr Mac: Rule of thumb: Belts do not just jump off by themselves!! Worn/misaligned pulleys can throw them off as can limbs/pine burrs, etc., as well as improper belt tension.
1) As Grey531 stated: Check those pulleys for damage, wear and alignment and the tension adjustment on the mule drive. 2) Once a belt has been thrown, remove it and check the outer edges for nicks, gashes, and/or cuts...If a belt shows any damage like that, you might as well as go get a new one, because they will continue to jump off, no matter the condition or adjustment of the pulleys or tension. Sharp edges on a pulley will sometimes damage the belt as it is thrown (for whatever reason, as stated above). Did I mention removing the belt and thoroughly checking the outer edges?? If the outer edges are intact, then I re-install the belts and usually they function well. PS, FYI: Gates "Green Stripe" belts are for L&G use and are Ok for your mower. Not so with Gates Automotive belts... Myron B |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
