Figured it was time for a Hy-tran change on the 1650 seeing I don't know if it had ever been changed. I got it warmed up and popped the rear cover off little at a time so I wouldn't make a BIG mess.
Raised it up in the front with the hoist to loosen the filter, and put it back down to level. Opened up the cover and removed it to let the fluid drain completely. Raised the tractor again to get the remaining fluid out, and cleaned out the diff, actually pretty clean. Seeing I had the cover and hitch off I figured I would clean it up and put on some fresh paint. Removed filter and installed the new one from CarQuest, and new cover gasket and filled with the new fluid. No drips!

Looks like that one was in pretty good condition to start with. Just a FYI my Cub dealer's price on filters is now better than NAPA so I'm back to OEM on the filters. Never used carquest

Thanks guys.
85410 is the CarQuest filter number. I've got an acount with them, so paid $8 something. I remember the last OEM one was something like $12 or $14. Saved a couple bucks anyway.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
