I'm working on the hydro fan replacement project tonight.
While attempting to drive out the dowel pin at the front of the drive shaft, the end splintered and broke off when I struck it. The other end has a lot of wear and will most likely break off when I strike it too. I assume I can replace this pin by contacting one of the site's sponsors? Or is that a common part like a roll pin that I can pick up at the auto parts store?

It is a hardened pin. You need to get it from either a CC dealer or the forum sponsors. I don't understand why you're trying to remove that pin. I've had some that were such a tight fit that the driveshaft had to be heated so that the pin could be tapped in. Unbolt the engine, slide it forward, and then unbolt the rag joint on the transmission input shaft. It's MUCH easier.

Trust me Matt...I'm all about doing it the easy way!
The repair manual described removing the pin to slide the shaft forward. It said nothing about moving the motor forward. Thanks for the tip.

The manual doesn't realize that the pin has probably been in there 30 years...at this point, the easy way to do it is unbolt the motor

Good point. Now the question is...will the pin hold up the way it is or do I have to remove it. I suppose there's no harm in running it this way and if it does break, replace it then.

I wouldn't run it like that. It looks like you chipped off the driven side of it, so it won't last long.

Slid the engine forward and was able to remove the drive shaft. Had to heat the shaft up to drive the pin out. The pin was not as damaged from me striking it as I originally thought but is very worn. I found the replacement at CCC.

yours looks mine that i just replaced on my 125, while i had it out i also changed the worn hub on the motor. yours looks about as bad as mine did.
