Default 2017 New Cub Cadet opinion

Opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one. I was in the Cub Cadewt dealer the other day to get an oil pressure switch, and while waiting on the part I waled around the showroom looking at new "tractors" (I use that term loosely). And my opinion is all these new units are complete junk. The only ones in the room that looked to be made well was the big zero turn units. The little "tractors" looked to be disposable units, if something semi-large brakes on it, you throw it away & get another, not worth fixing.

You do know that all the Susie homemaker mowers are junk? And not just Cub. I have used a commercial Gravely since the early 90's. But she is showing and acting her age. I am looking at the Kobuta BX and the John Deere 1025 but it's about as expensive as buying a car. But if you want quality, you pay for it.

Exactly, 100% true.

Before you cry about todays price of a Kubota BX take a look at the 1995 Cub Supers price list. In 1995 a 1782 with a 3 point and a 60" Haban had a list price of $12156.00 Think about that you got a 17HP diesel without 4 wheel drive and no rear PTO. Compare that to a BX 1870.

No, it's OK, I feel the same way. I have NO clue what I would buy if I had to buy new. I'll just keep using my 47 Y.O mower.

Adjusted for inflation, $10k in 1995 is the same as $16K today.

But I didn't feel like I could spend that much then and today is no different. Glad I have a stable of Cyclops w/ps, Kohler Command, Vanguards and 48" and 54" decks. That'll last me until I can't cut grass any more.

The only ones worth anything are the XT3's. The others are just throw away units. But with the XT3's starting in the mid $5k range it would be hard to justify that much for a lawn mower. If I was going to get something new it would probably be a Scag ZTR. My Kubota B7500 will hit 1500 hours this year and I'm still running the original deck belt. It will probably outlast me.

That's a big tractor Todd. If I were to buy something to just cut the grass, I would look at Gravely. The last time I was in there, you could buy a nice 54inch cutter for around 5k. But then again, I'm partial to Gravely.

That thing is almost as scary looking as the old Yazoo mowers!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
