Default Looking to purchase 1st cub

Hi all,

I am looking to purchase these cub cadets as a father/son project http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/da...747813908.html . But the owner stated the 149 does not have pto and just wonder which unit does it take? I would geuss manual pto but not sure. What would it cost to buy and where to find a complete unit. My on is excited to get them and start restoring. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Randy

The 149 uses the manual PTO. You can check our sponsors at the top of each page, or you can place a wanted ad, in the wanted items section.

Good luck on your purchase and it sounds like a great father-son project. PTO's can be a challenge to remove from an old cub. Best wishes on your new purchase!!! Of course we will want to see some pics of before and after!!!

Sounds awesome Randy! Glad you're going to go for it

I know where you can drop the 38" deck at when you decide you don't want it too

Default Advice

I find doing restorations is great when it's a hobby and not a job. Even when I do restorations for others I always take my time and walk away for a while if it's not fun. You can always come back to it when your ready. The key is to enjoy it. Many on this site can help with technical questions but remember there is also a ton of info on this site also. Stuff you can't find in books. I'd take pictures as you go. Start with a complete photo shoot of the entire tractor before taking it apart. With today's cameras it a great way to not only see the progress of the project but you never know when you might forget what went where. Remember...Have fun

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
