Default PTO not engaging/only when steering wheel is turned

So both the front PTO and deck PTO will only engage when the steering wheel is turned all the way to the left. This is similar to the issue I had before. The blades turned decent but would be slow until I turned my steering wheel to the left. I just swapped out the front PTO belt (someone said it may be old and stretched out) and now the only way it will engage, and only partial of the way, is when the steering wheel is turned all the way to the left. What would steering have to do with it? I'm puzzled.

Would you care to enlighten us with some more info like what tractor and deck you have?

Gardem, get a vid of the other side with the pto actuator if you can.

Does the actuator stroke when you engage it from the dash switch?

What happens when you have the wheel straight and pull the pto switch out to engage it?

Does the frame flex any when you are at full stroke causing the belt to slightly tighten?

Currently, nothing happens when the switch is turned on. The actuator is not engaging. Yes the frame is slightly flexing and I believe that is what is causing the belt to tighten, but with the actuator not engaging, the idle fully remains in the same spot.

The thing is though, I was mowing prior to this. The blades ran fast until I started mowing over a thicker patch, but turning the wheel even slightly would rev the blades back up. The only thing I did was change the front PTO belt and now the vacuum actuator won't do anything?

Okay.

The vacuum is picked up from the intake manifold and sent over to a solenoid switch on the firewall or the actuator (early models).

When you pull the pto switch on the dash it energizes the solenoid and sends the vacuum over to the actuator which causes the arm to move and tighten the belts.

Make sure all your hoses are on.

Pull the hose off of the solenoid that goes down to the actuator (not the one going to the engine) and suck on it. That should cause the arm to move on the actuator and tighten the belts.

You could have a stuck solenoid or leaking actuator causing your issue. Try the above and report back. We'll get you slinging grass in no time.

This is the hose correct? I hear air moving when I slightly press on the actuator. The pump also moves when I suck on the tube. (Mechanics is like fishing... Dang it can sound dirty!)

This is the solenoid. It should have one line going to the engine & the other going to the actuator. Do you have two on the solenoid?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
