What is the purpose of the sediment bowl and how does it work. Getting ready to clean mine and install it on my 149 that I am giving a face lift. The wire screen looked clean, but the bowl had a lot of crud in it. My fuel tank looked clean and no rust inside. Thanks and have a great day.

Sediment bowl is early filter. Junk in fuel collects in the bottom of see through bowl and fuel then filters out through a screen to carb.

^^^Yep!
Plus, it lets water settle out. Filters don't. |

I was thinking that too LP. Should have a straight t valve shut off on the bottom of the tank with a screen up inside of the tank right?

Thanks for the info. The sediment bowl was on it when I bought the tractor. It seemed like the bowl was never full of fuel, and I can't vision how it gets back to the fuel line to the carb. Maybe it was full and I am remembering incorrectly. Thanks again and have a great day.

I started my O a couple weeks ago, and went back later that day and it wouldn't start? After checking that I had fire at the plug, I knew it was a fuel issue. Ordered a new sediment bowl, and she started right up. The old one was trashed. The screen was completely clogged with 50 years of gunk.

I just ordered an original with a valve shut off, the previous owner had removed it and put in an inline filter with rubber fuel lines,
I plan to hard pipe it back to the Carb. I like the bowl types because they will trap water along with crude. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
