Thanks for the welcome.
A family member gave it to me last month. My Craftsman mower was only 4 years old, but it had steering issues and deck issues. I didn't feel motivated to work on it. After I got the 1250, I liked everything about it, the way it is designed, the way it rides, whole nine yards. So I gave the Craftsman to a friend at work who needed a mower. I have the deck off now, working on the idler pulley. Someone in the past painted the wheels with white spray paint, other than that, I think it looks pretty darn sharp! I like the art of the body style. This is something I feel motivated to work on, ha ha. Serial number is 2050630u-656667, which if I understand correctly makes it a July 1979. So I was 11 when this sweet ride rolled off the assembly line. ![]() |

You can take a little paint thinner on a rag and remove the overspray on the tires, or use lacquer thinner if it is stubborn.
I'd use paint thinner on the areas under the grill, as it is less likely to remove the yellow. ![]() |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
