Oh probably.
If you have a quick attach deck, you loosen the belt, slide the spring pins out, push the deck forward, lift the undercarraige and slide it out the side. I really think it's about the simplest machine that was ever made to remove the deck on. I think if you go out and look at it your going to feel silly for asking. It's really, really easy. |

Thanks, the deck is off and although I see what you are saying I can't get the deck far enough forward to secure the spring pins. Does the latch in front allow forward movement?

Who does that? When you pull the spring loaded pins and shove/pull the deck forward and off the front hangers, the belt gets loose. If your just taking deck out long enough to sharpen the blades, just tuck the loose end up out of the way too. Just don't be driving the tractor around with the dangling belt still on. Then raise deck lift handle so that the mule drive "chassis" is up out of the way. Pull deck out the side from the discharge side. Might come out easier if you turn the wheels to the left or right also. |

Thanks for the reply, the mower deck was off when I got it. I can see how it fits in and have it under the mower. There is slack in the belt and I have the mower inserted into the front attachment, I just can't get the mower in position to place the spring loaded clamps in place. Loosening and tightening the belt adjustment doesn't seem to make any difference. Sorry, just new and not sure how to explain better.

Try without the belt and see if that helps. The belt can be tight and if you aren't sure you're doing it right, might be hindering you. As mentioned it is really easy. Of course not seeing it on first doesn't help lol
Also, the pins on the clamp slide into the outside of the deck. They don't straddle anything. If that makes sense. You just pull the pin out and lift up, then let them slide back out into the deck mount.

I always
1) Position the deck under the tractor. 2) Lower the undercarriage hanger unit as low as possible. 3) Slide the front bars of the undercarriage into the eyelets on the front side of the mower deck. If the spring loaded pins prevent this, then retract them all of the way and angle them in their slots (not in the holes) to hold their position, preventing them from expanding the spring. 4) Adjust the deck either forward or backwards so the hole slots on the deck undercarriage align to the holes for the spring loaded pins. Now pull on the spring loaded pins and adjust them to fit in the holes. Secure them in their holes. 5) Next, to install the belt, adjust the nut on the spring tension pulley as far as possible. 6) Route the belt onto the pulleys of the undercarriage and onto the deck pulley. If you are having trouble putting it on the deck pulley, get it on 1/2 the way and then rotate the pulley so that the belt slips onto the pulley. 7) Finally, adjust the nut on the tension pulley of the undercarriage so that the pulleys hold the mule drive belt at a right angle to the ground. Itsa after 3 AM....hope I did not screw this up too much. ![]() Cub Cadet 123

Seeing you said the deck was off when you got it. I would definitely install the deck first without the belt.
1) you do not know that you have the correct belt 2) if the belt is too small you will never get the deck backward into position 3) after you get the deck fastened, you can then see if the belt works with the deck hung properly.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
