I took my M18S out to rebuild it and when I went to put it back in I couldn't get the front yoke to slide ahead far enough to get the roll pin back in. Only thing I changed was a new coupler on the engine. The one with the pilot bearing in it. It's off like 1/2 inch. Can't seem to move it front far enough even letting all the bolts loose. Any info would be great. Engine put back in exactly the same holes. Thanks.

I changed the entire driveshaft assembly on my 882 and I'm having the same issue. All parts are the exact same size as original. Not sure what the issue is.

The newer reg joints are a little thicker. You should try putting the front spirol pin coupler on the motor first on the bench. Then assemble the rear one on the tractor.

That driveshaft is a PITA to replace on my 982. I think the manual says to unbolt the engine, I can loosen the 4 engine bolts to slide the engine forward 1/2 inch and get her out or in...should be able to move the rag joints enough to solve any hole alignment mismatch

This is the way I would do it.

I can't just loosen the bolts on 1872. The front 2 are in hole with know slots. Maybe I can put it together like you said then do the back. If I didn't pin the the coupler on the rear. The real small pin I probably could get it.

There`s a sequence in that process that makes it easier...otherwise you could spend all day on it. Yeah try pinning the back coupling last..There should be enough flex in those rag joints (those rubber discs) that you can get the holes lined up. On mine I leave the motor loose until everything is assembled then make sure the motor is back as far as it will go then tighten it. ![]()

Loosen the 6 that hold the engine plate to the frame then. It will move forward a half inch.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
