Unhappy 109 carb issues

Hello gang,

I'm having a bit of a challenge with my 109. It starts fine and runs for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then runs rough and gas starts really leaking out the carb. When I shut it off gas continues to run out the carb (air intake). I turn the gas off and it stops leaking. If I wait a while (hours) I can turn the gas back on and start it up and it run for 5-10 minutes again before starting to leak again. If I turn the gas back on right away the gas starts to pour right back out the carb.

Any ideas? Leaky float or something? Just want to have an idea before I start taking the carb apart.

Thanks for any help or ideas you can offer.

Mike C.

Time to take the carb apart, clean thoroughly and put a kit in. You have a a needle sticking open probably because of some trash or dirt between it and the seat. Check the inside of your tank for rust and clean out as well. Also when you take apart carb make sure the float is empty and doesn't have any gas inside it, if there's liquid inside it won't float anymore and cause this issue as well

Thank you Alvy. Thought it would be carb kit time. I do notice some gunk in the bottom of my tank. I will try to de-crud that while I am at it.

You guys are the best!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
