Default 38" Deck Rebuild Problem with Spindles

I apologize if this is elsewhere on the forum, I searched but could not find the answer.

I have the 63-68 38" mower deck on a 127 that I am restoring. When I took it apart one of the spindles came apart and now when I reassemble it the spindle locks up. The problem appears to be with the bottom solid spacer. When I insert it the spindle locks up when the zerk bolt is tightened. I also mixed up the key's for the middle spindle and the spindle on the right (facing the tractor). One is shorter then the other and a little more square. They seem to fit either pulley but that may be causing the lockup. I can take additional photos if that would help troubleshoot this. One other question I had is what is the model number for this deck?

Default Still stumped!

Thank you for the manual, that has been helpful in making certain I had this assembled correctly.

I am however stumped with one of the spindles. It has all the right spacers, bearings and split washer and is in the correct order. When assembled though it sits against the deck and does not spin freely. I took apart the other spindle next to the discharge shoot to make certain I had this right and I do. Any suggestions as to how to fix this?

punisher:

Nice work on the 38". Hope you have solved your problem. If not -- by looking at your photo above, the pulley on the right is resting on the deck surface and the pulley on the left has proper clearance. If the parts all came off the deck originally and it operated fine prior to disassembly, then it can only be improper re-assembly. Try switching the two single pulleys which may reveal a clue.

I can't help with the spindle, but the deck looks nice.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
