Default 149 "Moneypit"

This is my 149 I'm fixin' up. Pulled the hydro today, drained the diff. Was wondering what you guys do to flush out the diff and hydro, there was alot of sludge in the bottom of the diff. The hytran looked clean, but the tractor sat for 6 years before I bought it. Any info/tips greatly appreciated.

Told the wife I was looking at another tractor (1650) today, hopefully my blackeye will be past the yellow stage before middle of May:biggrin2.gif:

Also posted pic of my 78 FLH "Original" moneypit.

To clean out the sludge, just use some carb or brake cleaner and clean it as good as you can. The sludge is actually moisture that the hytran has absorbed. It's one of the reasons we recommend using it.

AJ's right....I used my small parts washer and some parts washing solvent from Kleen Flow, you can see a couple pictures in my 982 thread of how I cleaned my rear housing on tractor....not saying it was correct way, but it worked for me!!!

It was one heck of mess of sludge to clean out in my tractor.

Small world, I have a 149 that I bought just recently and a 77 FLH that I've had since 1988, and yes it has a drip pan.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
