So my brand new Kohler carb, has 5 air cleaner mount holes, 3 of them located at 4/8/12-o'clock tapped 10-32, and two at 3/9-o'clock tapped who-knows what. Bigger than 10-32, smaller than 1/4, smaller than 6mm...definitely a fine thread, and a sloppy-loose fit to a 10-32...and my air cleaner back plate has holes at 3/6/9/12.
Anyone else run into this? Could those holes have been threaded 12-28 [now there's an obscure thread] or 3/16-32 [even more obscure, and close enough to 10-32 they shouldn't be that loose]? I could take them out to 1/4-20, I have bottoming taps, or I could helicoil to 10-32...too many choices. If they're some other oddball thread, anyone know what it is? Thanks, Brian |

The carb flange has no markings on it. The box it came in is labeled "B11069". The tractor came to me with a 7-horse non-cub kohler scabbed into it. The motor came with the tractor as a rebuildable core. I only know it's a K301 because I measured the bore and stroke...
Here's a pic of the carb mouth; you can clearly see the holes at 3 and 9 are bigger than the 10-32's at 4/8/12: |

Roland was referring to the SPEC # on the tag that is behind your fuel filter with yellow paint on it. Can you clean it up and see the number?

If your talking about the plate that mounts to the carb those bolts/screws are notorious for stripping. I drilled and tapped mine to 1/4 20 .

Be happy to clean the plate off, but keep in mind this engine is likely not original to this tractor, this shroud is likely not original to this engine, and the carb I just bought separately.
The guy I bought the tractor from had, I dunno, maybe a dozen of them, give or take, in various stages of disassembly and/or cannibalization... |

OK, so there is enough meat to go 1/4-20. Thanks!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
