Default Electrical Gurus HELP!

Alright, So i have been working at this 1450 for about a year (pretty much 3 hours a weekend).

http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ghlight=newbie

Yesterday, i finally got it started up after the engine rebuild. Ran it for 15 min and re-tightend the head bolts.

But, heres the problem.

When i tried to start it again my Throttle cable began to glow red hot. So this leads me to believe i have a ground issue. Most likely i got too excited when i was paiting and didnt pay attention to the things that ground through touch.

However, before i go through and ensure all my items are well grounded. how does the engine ground? Should the oil pan and the area where they mount to the frame rail be clean metal? These are iso mounted.

Any help would be appreciated. I hate electrical.

In the link above you can see what is painted.

The starter is mounted bare metal to bare metal. However, i know the Coil is trying to push through too much paint. Got pretty hot as well, but i have good spark.

I like to run a ground straight from the battery to the starter.

I don't know how that engine is supposed to be grounded but you are right, it is not grounded except through the throttle cable now. At least the throttle cable is carrying the current to the starter.

On an iso mounted engine, you need a ground cable from the engine to the frame.

there is supposed to be a ground cable going from the engine block to 1 of the bolts that hold the grille to the frame on the right side

Yep, I believe it goes from one of the starter mount bolts to the right rear grille mount bolt. Sounds to me like it's missing

Thank you for all the help. I will try it out this evening. I understand the grill method, but twith going stright to the battery.... do you just run wire from the mounting bolt to the NEG terminal on the batt?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
