Welcome, im no expert but a lot of guys would go with a kohler command 18. If I were doing this, that would be the route I would take. Might find a donor tractor to get a good engine from. Or if you want to go all out, drop in a 350 small block!

The popular repowers are the Kohler CH motors like old skool said, followed by the Magnum twins. You could put in just about any motor you like, the only limits are budget and time

Key to repowering a 582 is going to be getting the drive shaft properly lined up. Just my 2 cents but I'd contact Mid West Super Cub

http://www.midwestsupercub.net/

They do CH's in pullers all the time and probably have what you need to make it fit.

My CCC 1211 has a nice Magnum 12 in it. Its a single cylinder, but has the same spread frame as a 582 I believe. So by all the help given, I'd say you have something to work with!.

Nice to have you at Only Cub Cadets! Please give us the skinny on what you come up with as time permits, we'd be interested to find out!

Have a great day guys!

Welcome Chad

I've been emailing back and forth with CTS 582 and he mentioned his cylinder is scored. Worth resleeving that cylinder if the rest is good?

Jeff

No. Valve seats are prone to falling out. Plus, that engine is aluminum with cast cylinder "sleeves". Not enough there to sleeve.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
