Well my 1650 is all back together, new cork gasket fixed the leaky rear.
Now I'm on to splitting my 1450 which leaks even worse. I noticed it only has single flex disks on both ends of the shaft where the 1650 had a doubles on the hydro end. looking at this pic It appears 2 disks would fit well. lots of wave in that single disk. any thoughts? thx ![]()

Put two in the rear and one in the front. That way, if it's to break, the one in the front will break.

I think the blades on the fan seem short or maybe just an illusion

Thanks guys,
The fan is toast- I was wondering if anyone would say something, it has about half a fin left. I have a new one to put on during this teardown. Doing the steering box rebuild and cradle mod after I get the rear back in.

If two will fit without putting too much pressure on the connecting components. I would probably do it.

timbo2,
This info is a little late, seeing how you already have everything back together, but there was a change to the drive-shaft set-up in the quietline series on later units. Earlier units, 622951 and below(as listed on cubcadet.com), had single disks on each end. The joint had a ball bearing to help with alignment/spacing of the shaft. Later models eliminated the ball bearing. The drive-shaft was lengthened slightly at the rear to allow it to go into the alignment bushing in the rear coupling (the one fixed to the hydro), and a second flex joint was added to the rear. If you have the shorter driveshaft that used the ball, putting the second flex disc on it might not allow the driveshaft to be fully in the rear alignment bushing. Once the flex discs get some wear, you might develop a vibration at the rear of the shaft. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
