Red face 149 & QA36A snow thrower

Trying to get ready for some snow. Having trouble getting the blower to raise much when I pull back the Hyd. lever. Unscrewed the stop on side of tractor so that is not the problem. Down loaded the oper. manual for the QA36A & QA42A snow blower. The picture on page 2 show the top bars from tractor to snow blower as being straight. My bars are not straight. Could this be the problem? Wrong bars? Also, which way do the angled bars mount? Will try to post pictures. Got my winter tread tires mounted. 65# of rim guard in each tire and 55# weights per tire. Hope that will give me traction with the snow blower mounted. Everything is up hill or down hill depending on which way you are going. Hoping some of you can help me out. What a day. Computer would not boot and flash would not sync. with camera Thanks and have a great day!
Bob

This set of bar are for 82 series Cub Cadet, without those the blower chute hit the nose, for a 149 you normally need straight bar, easy to fabric using flat bar, a drill press and a grinder to round the corner....Assuming you have the measurement from a fellow member here of course!

Beside keeping the chute away further from the hood wen you lift the blower do they keep the blower level wen it's down on the ground? By the way those blower don't lift very far from the ground..

The curved bars came out when the 82 series arrived like old skull said, but they should still work fine with your machine. Orient them like a smile, like in the first pic. They don't lift very high 2-3" maybe. I see your using a chain for lift, maybe choke up one link if it still lets the blower drop below the wheels for terrain variation. A check to see if you have enough slack is to put 2"x4"'s under the wheels to raise the tractor up, the thrower should still be on the ground.

Thanks for the help. I am having trouble getting the tractor, with the snow blower attached, out of my Building. The back yard is sloped down to the building. The bottom of the snow blower hits the ground before the front wheels come off the ramp. I may have to extend my ramp out a few more feet and make it level. Pictures attached.

Or put a couple of 2X8 or larger down as temporary ramps

Bob, I don't recall having a lift problem with that thrower when I had it mounted on my 108. The ramp coming out of my shed is pretty steep also, hopefully you can get it worked out.

Now for the rest of the story, Took my 2 wheel dolly to the building, loaded the snow blower on it and was able to man handle it up hill to the garage. I already had the mounting platform on the tractor. Hooked the snow blower to it, for the 3rd time, since I started and hooked the lift chain. I also had worked on the mount that hooks to the pump. Tightened every thing up. Fired the tractor up, pulled back on the lever to raise it and heard a loud cracking noise. Shut the tractor off, got off and looked to see if any thing had broke. Lo and behold, the blower was about 8 to 10 inches up off the floor. Could not find what made the noise. Fired the tractor back up and every thing seemed to work ok. Drove it down to the building and it went in and out with out scraping the ground. Parked it in the building and quit for the day as I was worn out. Tough getting old. Hope I don't find a big puddle when I go back to the building. Thanks for all your help and support. I really depend on this Forum.

The clunk may have been the driveshaft. Did you line it up correctly? It can't just go any which way.....

I really don't understand why you took the blower off the frame that way. About 5X easier to take it off altogether.....

My 149 made a bang sound one day while lowering my blade. Take your tunnel cover off and watch while you raise it up and down. Sounds like something is binding in there maybe catching against the frame

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
