I got some time to tinker with the new to me 2072 today. It came to me with no drive shaft and some stuff banged up as I said in another post it did not seem too serious. I got together the parts to replace the shaft and some hydro linkage and got it all hooked up.Well engine started and seems good that was a load off my mind but the hydro does not seem to build pressure.I ran it at a good speed and worked the shifter with the wheels off the ground but no movement. So far checked the fluid made sure it was full ,changed the filter with a new Cub one and all I get is the power steering seems to work but very hard and sluggish.Any ideas before I pull this rear out and switch it with the spare I have?
Thanks , Bob |

If the shaft was out when you bought it, makes me wonder if someone installed the charge pump upside down? If it is that could be the problem, but steering shouldn't work either.?? Does the lift do anything?

Yes, you just need to remove the driveshaft. There are some posts on here somewhere that tell you which way it goes. I can't seem to find them or remember which way it goes. Does it steer any easier at all with the engine running? It will steer(very stiff) with out the engine running for a while just from the fluid in the lines.

With the tunnel cover off, is the pump turning at engine speed? Does it have a driveline disconnect clutch?

Ok ,I just went and looked at it again then at a diagram on Parts Tree .The charge pump does look very clean on the outside like it may have been out.So it looks like just two bolts on the front into the case ,do I just remove it and turn it 180 ?I think it's worth a try I do have a spare super pump also that is not in a tractor but the splines on the input shaft are not great would it better to just change it out and how do you know it it's upside down.Sorry for all the questions I just have never had one apart they are so tough even the most rat faced ones seem to work just fine with new fluid and filters .Oh and Lew ,I do have heat so not thinking it is frozen but thanks for the heads up .I added a pic I think I am looking at the right thing .

Shrewcub, thanks for the offer to check yours for me I did some more searching on here found a post by Sam Mac. His post shows a flat spot on the charge pump cover that must be turned one way and I just looked mine is wrong.I hope to get a chance to work on it some more tomorrow and will report in .Once again thanks to all for the help and advice .

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
