Default 149 hard start

My 149 starts super hard after sitting outside in the brrrr cold weather. After putting it back in my heated garage, It pops off right away every time. Any of you guys had this kind of issue before????

Should have given more info, Sorry. Engine turns over like it should when it sits outside, but seems like week spark, maybe, after cranking it over and over and over, giving it choke and no choke, gas starts running out carb, so, but in my garage there are no issues..

More than likely it's a weak spark. Give the ign system a going over. Weak spark is generally a weak coil. Could be a timing issue also. How long has it been since the ign system was tuned up?

Do you still have summer gas in it? Old gas?

You know what.....let me start over.

Yes, if it sits outside in the cold it will start harder. Maybe not at all. I was looking at it more from a mechanical standpoint on hard starting. But, in the winter it is more important to have a good ign system as it takes a hotter spark when EVERYTHING is so cold. You may not actually have any problem. But it's always good to keep things in good working order.

Why not just keep it in the heated garage? It's a lot easier on the machine.

Engine re-built last spring, all new Kohler points and cond. timed by static method, I didn't put a new coil on it thou, because it seemed to run great in the summer. No issues at all until I parked it outside when it turned cold...

If all that is new and you know your timing is right, then yeah...... keep it inside and it will be fine.

Raw gas will not ignite. It has to vaporize and gas doesn't vaporize as easy or as fast in cold weather. Hot spark or weak spark.

I've borrowed one of those battery tenders from my Dad (which he got at Harbor Freight) last winter and stuck it on my 107. Seems like that helped with starting and running in the cold, even though I have something close to 300 CCA on a newer battery.

I should probably give that battery tender back to him buuuuuuuuuuuuuut it's getting close to snow removal time....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
