Fresh pair of 782's

Alright guys, this is a deal I've been working on for over a month now. The end deal is I traded my 129 (which smoked pretty bad) and some cash for 2 IH built 782's. One machine is complete but in rough cosmetic shape, and the other is minus an engine but in decent to good cosmetic shape. The silver lining is I could make one good machine out of both. I was told the one with the engine would run on carb cleaner, so I took it as a carb rebuild needed.

Well, once I got things home, I realized it may be more than that. I wish I had more time to describe things, but suffice it to say, idk if the one with the engine will run. It looks rough, but we'll see.

The one looks pretty good. Looks like a series 1 in the other. I hope it isn't making death noises (if it even turns).

Good tractors but keeping those engines together is tough. Finding a good engine is even harder.

Yeah, at this point I believe you are correct, it's a Series I. I'm told it will run on starting fluid so I'm optimistic I can get it running on its own. I think it's been sitting for a while, however; when I pulled the gas cap, the float on the arm was rusted in place Now I just have to get time to play with them and see if I can make one good one between the two, then sell off the rest of the parts. That's the plan at this point, anyway.

But hey, they are both Internationals!!

That's been on my mind a lot, as well. But a project like that will have to wait until spring of next year, I just won't have the time or room in the garage to dig into something like that (of course now that I say that, I'll find a low hour 2185 local for cheap, then we all know what I'll do ). I've got to park one of these 782's outside since there isn't any room in the garage, gotta keep that car space open for the lil lady when the snow starts to fly

Anyway, Sam, yes; I want to repower it down the line and keep it around. In the past, I have had a couple 1811's and they were far and away one of my top favorite Cubs, with 2 shortcomings; the Mag engine (which I loved the power of, but we all know how cheap those are to work on). The other was the fact that it wasn't red! So, if I can get a good powerplant in a 782, she'll definitely stay around. Now, back to reality (and work )

Small update; got a chance to at least look at what I'm up against last night with getting the engine running (IF it will run, that is). First off, for some reason they removed the starter So what I think I'm going to do is pull the engine, put it on the bench, and give it a good going over. I should have a pair of head gaskets in the drawer so I may remove the heads to clean things up and check out what I can. Then again, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The carb is definitely going to need rebuilt, and what's left of the fuel line replaced. I'm betting I'm going to have to order a new fuel pump, as well; the one that's on there looks pretty rough. But until I know the engine will run, I'll just rig up a gravity feed for the carb to test it out. After that, the fuel tank will surely be coming off to be cleaned out, as well. The hydro lever moves free so until I know if it'll run or not, I think I'll leave the rear alone. Down the line, it'll surely be getting a fluid and filter change along with finding out if the trunnion will need work or not.

I'm excited to dive into this project, although it won't happen as soon as I'd like (stupid harvest ). I'm hoping (although I'm kinda skeptical) the engine will run and get me through until I can find a suitable donor machine. I'm glad to have a red one back in the shop, and like the two Cyclop's I have, this one will be sticking around for the long haul. Once I get things settled on this machine, I'll be posting up the other one I have in the For Sale section, going to part it out. It's basically complete minus the engine and mounting plate. Like I've said before, they are both true IH machines so there will be a cast rear out there before too long. Anywho, there should be some good parts for you guys coming up.

One thing I neglected to look at is which carb it has, the Walbro POS or the Carter. I'm betting, though, since it's a Series I engine it'll be the Carter. Can anyone shed any light on this? When did they introduce the Walbro carb's to the Kohler KT engines? I'd like to order a carb kit today but would hate to order the Carter and have it be a Walbro carb

I want to say my uncles old series 1 carb said kohler on it but I'm not positive. The Walbro is definitely stamped on them. I swapped the series 1 carb in place of the Walbro that came on my 782. It was an easy rebuild. I don't think the float is in the OH kit so you'll need to order it separate. I also soaked it for a couple days. Napa sells a 1 gallon can of carb cleaner with a basket you can dunk the parts with.

Definitely starts easier now.
